Where You’ll Work

AINW’s headquarters are in Portland, Oregon. We complete projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and are expanding operations in the Puget Sound area. We prefer that you live in the Pacific Northwest and work in AINW’s Portland office at least two days a week. We are open to considering other arrangements.

Your Opportunity with AINW

We are seeking to hire a qualified candidate to fill the position of Supervising Archaeologist. We are looking for an experienced archaeologist to lead field investigations throughout the region, including Oregon, Washington, and neighboring states. The position includes a supervisory role for field investigations and authorship of summary reports. The position presents a valuable opportunity for career growth, as you will be mentored by current AINW Project Managers who have unsurpassed knowledge of archaeology and the business of cultural resource consulting in the Pacific Northwest.

You would report to AINW Project Managers/Assistant Project Managers. We are seeking a candidate who can work full-time and travel frequently (up to 50% of your time) when needed for meetings and fieldwork.

Your Qualifications

To be successful in this position, you should meet the minimum requirements listed below. If you don’t meet the minimum requirements but think you are a good fit for this position, reach out and let us know how your equivalent knowledge and experience meet our needs.

  • One to five years of prior archaeological experience
  • M.A., M.S., or higher degree in anthropology or closely related field
  • Professionally qualified in archaeology per the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines
  • Can obtain archaeology permits issued by Oregon, Washington, and federal agencies
  • Strong scientific writing skills

In addition to the minimum qualifications listed above, those candidates seeking consideration for the Supervising Archaeologist position should have the following skills and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising field personnel
  • Familiarity with cultural resource management laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest archaeology, history, and geography

Successful candidates will also have the ability to collaborate and work with other staff to prepare professional reports. The position requires working cooperatively with managers, technical staff, and administrative staff.

Your Compensation

The anticipated yearly pay is between $66,500 to $87,360, depending on your qualifications and experience. AINW pays for medical and dental coverage and offers paid parental leave and paid time off. AINW pays overtime for more than 40 hours worked per week, and has a 401(k) profit sharing plan.
