Supervising Archaeologist, Assistant Project Manager/Supervising Archaeologist

AINW is pleased to announce openings for two professional archaeologist positions.

We are looking for experienced archaeologists to lead field investigations throughout the region, including Oregon, Washington, and neighboring states. Although the positions would be based in our Portland, Oregon, office, we support and encourage remote working to fight the spread of Covid-19. We also abide by stringent policies to protect our field workers and supervisors from Covid-19, including single occupancy vehicle use and screening hotels for the best cleaning and social distancing policies available. Your health and safety will come first at AINW.

Due to an outpouring of demand for our services and recent promotions, we are seeking to hire qualified candidates to fill the positions of Supervising Archaeologist and Assistant Project Manager/Supervising Archaeologist. Both positions include a supervisory role for field investigations and authorship of summary reports. The Assistant Project Manager/Supervising Archaeologist position offers candidates the opportunity to engage in aspects of project management, including client coordination, scoping, and budgeting. The position presents a valuable opportunity for career growth, as you will be mentored by AINW Project Managers who have unsurpassed knowledge of archaeology and the business of cultural resource consulting in the Pacific Northwest.

We ask that candidates for both positions meet these minimum qualifications.

  • Three to five years of prior archaeological experience
  • M.A., M.S., or higher degree in anthropology or closely related field
  • Professionally qualified in archaeology per the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines
  • Can obtain archaeology permits issued by Oregon, Washington, and federal agencies
  • Strong scientific writing skills

In addition to the minimum qualifications listed above, those candidates seeking consideration for the Assistant Project Manager/Supervising Archaeologist position should have the following skills and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising field personnel
  • Familiarity with cultural resource management laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest archaeology, history, and geography

Successful candidates will also have the ability to collaborate and work with other staff to prepare professional reports. Both positions require working cooperatively with managers, technical staff, and administrative staff.

Why choose AINW?
